Each year, a 5-day SPLITGeoscience Professional School / Workshop event will be organized. The School will attract mainly undergraduate and graduate underrepresented students as well as early-career professionals across the nation and engage them in an interactive training where they will learn from international and national experts from academia, research institutions/industry, and government agencies
The most recent remote sensing technologies, geographic information systems (GIS) and data science (quantitative geoscience) will be used to address and solve geoscience problems. The workshop will integrate theoretical learning, fieldwork training, and hands-on experience using the state-of-the-art remote sensing technology, sophisticated and comprehensive modeling approaches, data analysis, and advanced software for geoscience applications related to environmental changes and natural hazards
Each School will also include lectures on research communication where participants will learn how to explore online resources, successfully write abstracts and manuscripts, present research and contribute to conferences. This training session will also focus on how to explore graduate education, apply to graduate school, or begin a career in geoscience
